Hellmann Worldwide Logistics - Interview With Denes Szigeti

Hellman is one of the longest running companies in the logistics industry, in fact, it's one of the first companies in Germany to successfully replace their horse-drawn fleet with coal-powered trucks. Let's read about more of their history and letâ€™s get to know their Hungarian Managing Director - Denes Szigeti.

How long have you been in the freight forwarding business?

DS - I have been working in the freight forwarding industry for 13 years

How did you get into the freight and logistics industry?

DS - I started to work for DHL Global Forwarding as an air export coordinator 13 years ago.

What are the current difficulties or challenges you are facing in your country when it comes to shipping?

DS - Human resource issues. Not easy to find good well trained professionals in Hungary because the unemployment rate is extremely low.

For customs clearance in your country, any advice or guidelines you can provide to your future partners?

DS - Hellmann Hungary is AEO F certified. We are able to do customs clearance 24/7 in Hungary. Advice? Always look for a reliable customs agent.

If you can change anything about the freight forwarding industry, what would it be?

DS - Sometimes the freight forwarders handle each other as enemies. We are competitors, that's true, but we should be always positive and honour our competitors.

What advice would you give to a person who is considering a career in the freight forwarding industry?

DS - Freight forwarding for me is not a job, it is my passion. If somebody is looking for a challenging environment in their life, logistics is one of the best choices.

Please tell us about your company. Where are your headquarters and when did you first establish the company?

DS - Founded in 1871, our company started with one man, Carl Heinrich Hellmann, using a horse-drawn cart to deliver parcels in and around the town of OsnabrÃ¼ck, in northern Germany. Four generations later, Hellmann is a company with a worldwide network of 19,500 people in 437 branches in 162 countries.

What industry sector are you servicing the most? Have you seen a shift in industries requiring time critical logistics services?

DS - Mainly automotive AOG and pharmaceutical customers.

What should shippers consider when selecting a time critical logistics service provider?

DS - If I were a shipper I would look for only a reliable, flexible, professional, customer orientated, and enthusiastic time critical team. The Hellmann team really loves logistics and the time critical jobs; the customers can feel this. We are always doing our utmost to solve all of the challenges and difficulties in our daily job.
